Inspiration and Genius
2008-02-19
Artists and writers have always known how to bring forth the potential genius inside them. Thomas Edison said genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. Well, that 1% inspiration is the essential part.
Inspiration is a gift that comes to all of us. It’s part of our nature to be available to inspiration. We don’t have to earn it or do anything to get it. We just have to acknowledge that it’s always there, trying to get in touch with us.
It’s easy to be inspired. Paying attention to life will bring about inspiration. Paying attention is a form of love. When we are attending to something we are giving it our love. What we are experiencing through that love is inspiration. We love what we are inspired by, and we are inspired by what we love.
Paying attention to life and is a high art we have to cultivate. It doesn’t come naturally to most of us. We have to teach ourselves to do it.
Notice it when you feel an interested warmth and appreciation, whether it be for someone in your life, some small object, or an everyday experience. The important thing is not to let the moment pass before recognizing it as an inspired moment. The more you recognize inspiration as it happens, the more you open the gates to receive inspiration in any and all areas of your life.
The most inspiring people are those who appreciate everything. They see the hidden value in people and things that the rest of us miss. This week, allow yourself to be inspired over and over again by continually looking for the hidden value in people and things.
